Eduardo is beyond control at this point about the World Cup (co-worker Sarah noted "but that's so stereotypical, seeing as he's latin and all" - something that I didn't realize). He shaved his hair (as I called him out on, to, presumably, appear more like a pro football player), and last night I didn't get to REM that much since he was up and about, really excited and in anticipation for today's opening game; he was tossing and turning, going into the bathroom to read his book (yes, he does this often, reading not while using the bathroom but to just sit and read since i am like a Nazi with the light when I am sleeping), and then coming back, poking me a bit to see if I am awake (which I am, but not responding, be/c I so desperately want to go back to sleep), and then eventually I fall asleep and he continues to do god knows what until my alarm goes off and I have to go pretend to be a paralegal. That was last night. It was like Christmas come early for him.

Today, I am exhausted and eating straight up crap be/c I am so freaking lazy and tired to go out and get real food so its vending machine fare (read: Three Musketeers and instant ramen which I didn't actually eat be/c I realized after it was chicken flavor - when I threw out the smell of it made me throw up a little in my mouth). But back to World Cup obsession. Because most, if not all, of Eduardo's friends originate from some country other than the U.S., he is going to watch the Poland v....I don't know, Poland v. some country game with his polish friend, Sebastian (who I just call Poland). Tomorrow, its another bar with his British brother in law Hugo to watch the England v....again, not sure. After that, he and I drive to Schaumberg to get my bridesmaids dress for the circus wedding next weekend (wait, I mean, Thursday PM - Sunday AM; so time monopolizing), but after, of course, be/c we may not be able to get back to my apartment in time for the 2pm game (Ivory Coast v....) we are going to stop at his parents house and watch it. Then race back downtown to catch the primetime game. Too bad his parents aren't from the Ivory Coast be/c then he could keep up with his "watching the game with a native" tradition. I am korean so, any game with Korea v....whatever will still work. And he is like a bunch of different ethnicities, so I guess he's covered for the German and...I don't know, does Panama have a team? If so, that game too.

This will go on through July. JULY. I will either become a raging football fan (I have to call it that, even though we Americans know it as soccer), or grow to hate the sport. Right now, as far as the World Cup and Eduardo is concerned, I don't very much care so long as it doesn't impact my sleep any further. This sounds cold but i'll be honest here, sleeping is one of my favorite activities and having it interefered with, for any reason, makes me evolve into a sleep deprived, scowl-y faced, baggy eyed grunt of a girl.

Spinning the Wheels

I really love it when I put my ipod on shuffle and it plays just amazing music sequentially. There are some songs that I just cant tolerate at work, and although some tracks/artists that I rarely listen to (i.e.: Gang of Four, Idlewild, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, old school Blink 182, vintage Fugees) seem to be taking up valuable space, I feel a strange sense of security that those tracks are there, ready to be played whenever. Today, however, I started the list off with the Notwist: Consequence, which was followed, to my shock, with Oddjobs: Sleepwalk (one of my favorite songs). I was surprised at the third track, Ok Go: Get Over It, but I listened to it for the Ira Glass benefit (he loves this band, I think primarily be/c the lead singer studied Semiotics, a kick ass major at Brown, and an interesting vein of theory in general). After that trip down memory lane, it was Justify My Thug by Jay-Z. Quality! I was so happy. Doves: Catch The Sun was followed by Alkaline3: Crawl.

Sadly the good run came to a quick halt at The Police: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Why do I still have this on my Ipod? I'm like a pack rat with songs despite that I never listen to some and will deliberately skip some, I keep them on there. I dont know, maybe I assume that there will be some random day where my Ipod will get lost and some good willed stranger will find it and upon glancing through my list think "wow, she has a good variety of music," and if I delete any one of those artists, well, they might think "hmmm, this would be better with some Police. Too bad."

I dont really know why I do these things. I listened to the whole track which was a good thing be/c it was followed by Ella Fitzgerald Louie Armstrong: Cheek to Cheek. Redeemed. Next, Antonio Carlos Jobim: Amor Em Paz, which is one of my favorites. I asked Eduardo if, when we get to Guatemala, this music will be playing everywhere. His answer, much to my shock and chagrin, was a firm no. I think I need to find a way to get into Cuba. Ive been dreaming about that since I was in high school and its time to get moving on that.

Okay so after that it was another song I need to trash (some Howie Day crap) but finally, Karate: Roots and Ruins. A good song to end on.
