I am in detroit. ...and here's a more intimate look at whats going on (haha) via an email I wrote to Eddie earlier today: (following a two hour conversation at one am, two am my time --damn that time change)--

"Today was a better day. I actually have some itemized idea of what I am going to be doing here in D/town. My official title is "Intern/Continued volunteer/SEIU hero Director" I am going to be working closely with the ACT director. Tomorrow, we look at office furniture...haha--this office is opening up without anyhing in it, and I am one of the vanguards. I feel so special. The lease was signed today, and we move in on Monday--I even get my own desk. How...odd. I need pictures and random crap to decorate it...whatever. I hate clutter, contrary to what my bedroom looks like. What I need is a giant truck I can just park with all my crap in it, and then move periodically when I need my stuff.
I am at the Southfield library, which is beautiful. Again, the feeling of being in Florida kicks in. No idea why.

I am going to try to go around Detroit tonight to see what the city holds. I hope I don't get shot. Apparently that is even more common than in Chicago, can you believe it?
Maybe i'll drive down 8mile...its the road that closes the city in from the burbs. Also, the parking lot scene in that movie was where Eminem...well, I don't know what he did but it was actually the parking lot for the SEIU Central headquarters...I bet Eminem was a union member when he worked in that factory!
Do we even cover factory workers? No clue."

It is alarmingly lonely though. The city just doesn't seem to hold as much promise as Chicago--plus, the constant fear that I am going to get shot doesnt help either.

More to come, as soon as I know it. There are two guys in front of me verbally moaning as girls walk by. I've shot them a number of dirty looks and am about to say something to them.
Fuckers.

Now, on to scrounge up some food. Mmm.
